Pro Models do not wear bras or undergarments

One of the first indicators of a beginner photographer is the presence of distracting elements in their images, such as bras and their straps, undergarments, or unnecessary accessories like rings. Social media platforms like Instagram are filled with examples of photographers who fail to take the time to refine their craft or apply basic common sense to their shoots. For instance, visible bra or panty lines can ruin the professional appearance of a model, while engagement or wedding rings can draw attention away from the intended focus of the image, detracting from the client’s goals.
Rings can work well in certain themes, such as a biker chick, tattoo model or paired with mini skirts and leather leggings. However, rings worn with swimwear and many other instances are often a clear sign of an inexperienced photographer and model. These small details can make or break the overall look of a shoot.
Take, for example, the attached image where a visible bra disrupts the model’s appearance and can add serious wrinkles to creases in their garments. Additionally, the presence of a bellybutton ring reflects poorly on the model’s judgment. Bellybutton rings are rarely seen on industry leaders and are often criticized in professional settings. A notable instance involved a famous Victoria’s Secret model who faced backlash for wearing a bellybutton ring during a high-profile shoot, angering the client.
When evaluating a photo, consider whether accessories like rings enhance or detract from the overall aesthetic. Applying common sense to every aspect of modeling and photography is essential. Aspiring models should seek out experienced photographers rather than “Guy/Gal With Camera” (GWC) amateurs to ensure their work reflects professionalism and quality.
